Cassava is in actual fact a lowland tropical crop. It is hard in nature and mostly cultivated in the mangrove swamps in the Niger delta unto the savanna area. Its nurturing extends as far as to the north and the Sudan district. It has the ability to withstand prolonged periods of drought when it may shed it leaves; but come alive again quickly when the rains drop.

We can grow cassava in almost all the known soil type provided the area is not a soaking area, too shallow or too stony. Cassava grows very well in sandy or loamy soils which contain reasonable fecundity. In Nigeria, most of the cassava are grown is in the south. Today Nigeria is the leading producer of cassava in the world.
